Midtown Community Mural Project

Community Mural Project
Location: 23rd   facing the alley between K and L streets

Midtown will soon see a new “neighborhood” art mural.  The mural will span eighty feet in length and is divided up with a geometric pattern providing over 100 spaces for local artist to paint. This is one of the first murals of this concept in Sacramento.

When viewed from a distance the wall looks like a mosaic but upon closer inspection the viewer will see that each space is a separate work of art, as unique as the people who created them. Some of the spaces available to the artists are tiny, 6”x 6” and others are the size of a door.

The first space to be painted is of two” friendship” hands outstretched towards one another on a vibrant orange background. Other artists will be starting this Saturday and continuing until the entire wall is completed.  This art project is the brainchild of Kristina McClanahan, Clare Bailey and Thomas Roth of M.A.P. (Midtown Alley Project).

M.A.P Goals:

1. Create a focal wall that includes all styles of artwork and unites artists, fostering a sense of community by paying tribute to the diversity in talent.

2. Improve neighborhood esthetics by beautification of alley ways with hopes to cut down on graffiti and vandalism.
