Urban Farm Stand: Summer produce is arriving

The summer crops are arriving in our farm stands! We have slicer, heirloom, and cherry tomatoes as well as bell peppers and hot peppers most farm stand days now. We are also starting to get a variety of melons -- cantaloupe, tuscan, and watermelon, and we will be getting figs, nectarines, and grapes in the next few weeks. We will be losing our chard, kale, beets, and carrots as the heat sets in, but they will return again in the fall.

In order for the Urban farm stands to remain in the community we have to ensure they are financially sustainable, and you can help! Please help us spread the word about the fabulous fresh produce available in Alkali Flat, McClatchy Park, Oak Park, and Del Paso Heights.  All of the farm stands are open to the general public and accept cash and EBT (Electronic "food stamps").

How can you help promote the stands?

1.  Share this blog to your family, friends and coworkers that live in the Sacramento area.

2.  Ask for some extra flyers when you shop at the farm stands and put them up in businesses around town, or hand flyers out in your neighborhood.

3.  Write a letter to the editor of your community newspaper (Sac. Bee, SN&R, Valcom News, Sacramento Press) and tell others about your experience, or ask them to write an article about the farm stands.

4.  Are you internet savy?  Help us put our information on list serves, or blog about the farm stands on local Web sites such as sacramento.downtowngrid.com,  Sacramento Food Forums, etc.

5.  If you would like to help get the word out, please email Davida Douglas at davida@alchemistcdc.org and tell us what you would like to do to help support this project.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you at the farm stands.
