New and improved w/ beer, wine and great coffee as always

by Fit Your Future, Monday 19 of October, 2009 (15:14:47)

I know the girls that own Butch n Nellies I'm sure they are just trying to get business and stay afloat in this economy. I'm sure they did not know it that their distribution staff was conducting business illegal. Now that you posted this negative review they know! And I'm sure you will not receive another flyer in your mail box!

Anyway have you been to Butch n Nellies lately? They have added TV's and special events! And they are adding more all the time.

The staff is super friendly and the food is made in house and yummy! Oh and the best news of all they have beer and wine now!!!!!

So come in and support your locally owned and operated independant coffee house/ lounge!

Illegal Mailers

by Brendon Barnett, Saturday 10 of October, 2009 (08:19:39)

Butch N Nellie's has been placing mailers into people's mailboxes. The latest I received was a "Join Us For Footbal Sundays!!!" flyer. Personally, I don't want people opening up my mailbox and I  think the operation should be directing their distribution staff to conduct business legally.

Section 1725 of Title 18 of the United States Code states:

Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits any mailable matter such as statements of accounts, circulars, sale bills, or other like matter, on which no postage has been paid, in any letter box established, approved, or accepted by the Postal Service for the receipt or delivery of mail matter on any mail route with intent to avoid payment of lawful postage thereon, shall for each such offense be fined under this title.

Great daytime spot to take the kids

by maleaab, Tuesday 05 of May, 2009 (07:36:47)

Recently I was driving through Sac with my 10 year old son and 13 year old niece in tow.  I was jonesing for coffee like you wouldn't believe!  Being from the 'burbs (sadly), I was headed towards that ever-pervasive coffee shop where everyone wears a green apron...you know the place...  Suddenly, I saw it!  Like an oasis in the middle of the city:  Butch 'n Nellies!  Hard right into the first parking spot and we were there!

The kids loved their sorbetto (though the mango was not a good first pick) and I loved my soy latte (the foam was perfect!).  While the kids played chess (the board is painted on several tables), I flipped through the News and Review.

Later that same week, we happened to be in the area again and, this time, hungry.  Kids got more sorbetto (raspberry is heavenly!) and I tried the veggie panini...to die for!  The bread was amazing and the innards of the sammy left my tummy more than satisfied!  Again, the kids played more chess (there are other board games, toys and books for all ages), while I caught up on some reading.

A lovely little place!

What a way to start the weekend!

by sacguy72, Wednesday 15 of October, 2008 (11:58:23)
I was just recently at Butch-N-Nellie's over the weekend - and since I was a bit early for a brunch - I swung by there to pass the time. Although I was grumpy -- the staff, the atmosphere, and the coffee perked me up so I was able to have an enjoyable day & weekend! THANKS

Revive your inner child

Yeah, yeah, yeah -- good coffee, interesting gelato, free wi-fi, yummy sandwiches, blah blah blah... The BEST part of this shop is its amazing assort of FREE LEGOS to play with!! Build a pirate ship and attack your friend's half spaceship, half aztec temple command post!  Mix and match, because all the parts come in a big treasure chest and who knows what you are SUPPOSED to do with them (and who cares!).  Its fun, meditative, and worth the buck or two you can throw into the Lego fund to keep the whole thing going.

Love it!

I used to come here all the time when I was in grad school. Good coffee, cheap yummy eats, free wi-fi, and generally a place to park all your crap and spend as much time as you need. Love it!

All Good

by Laurie, Monday 13 of October, 2008 (15:17:37)

Butch and Nellie's is one of my favorite stops. There is always a parking place close by and there are all sorts of different places to sit. I might perch on a stool in the window if Im by myself and have paperwork to do, or curl up on the couch to chat with friends. There are tables outdoors and a couple of surprisingly private tables toward the back. The coffee is good, the coffee drinks are good and the pastries are divine!

I'm so proud to say that I was there when this dream was in its infant stage!  The place looks warm and inviting, with what I'm sure I can say they're regular "grind" of customers who frequent daily. Now I live across the country in the south, but was born in California so I have an intimate connection with ya'll. I must impress upon everyone to check out the local art in Butch-N-Nellies, I know one of the artists and her work is AMAZING. Gotta love the Volkswagon! you go girls!!

A nice cup of coffee.

To walk into Butch and Nellie's is a warm and enjoyable experience. Their coffee is served well and with a smile, and the taste is divine.

Great coffee drinks, good Panini’s, gelato!, games, a private room, outdoor tables… Pretty darn nice all the way around.

I have been here a few times and really enjoyed the atmosphere, the beverages they offer and the great
gelato.  A highlight for sure.  If you want some quiet time to study or read this is a cool spot to hide from
the world for a while.

Butch-N-Nellies

Walking into Butch N Nellies on 19th and I St., you will sense the aroma of fresh brewed espresso and grilled paninis as people maneuver their fingers over their laptops or share special news with neighbors.  Butch N Nellies doubles as an art gallery as the walls are covered in local art.

Known for their organic coffees and baked treats such as scones, keish and delightful muffins, Butch N Nellies is also famous in Midtown for their unique flavors of gelato.  If you haven’t tried gelato before, it is similar to ice cream yet whipped in such a way that the air is pulled out of it, creating a dense, creamy delight.

Gridsters visit Butch N Nellies to study, conduct meetings, utilize the place as a resting ground when they are out walking their beloved pet or a place to relax all while enjoying an espresso and scone, grilled sandwich or gelato.

Family owned and operated, this is by far my favorite coffee house in Midtown! The women who own the place are friendly and experienced, having owned coffee houses before, and it shows. The cappuccinos are exquisite. The foam is dense, sweet, and velvety; while the coffee and espresso are deep and rich: roasted to perfection. They are civilized enough to serve food-good, homemade food-and don't let me forget the gelatto ;) Speaking of desserts, check out their pastry case ( Kim and Christy lucked out when they got Karina, the ex-pastry chef from Tower Cafe, to supply their treats).

Butch and Nellies has all the components of a great coffee shop, good coffee, yummy food (paninis and scones and cookies), friendly staff and a warm atmosphere, plus gelatto. They have free wifi and lots of room for work, but still maintain a cozy feeling. Their basic drinks (coffee, latte and mocha etc.) are great, and they have really fun speciality drinks for the more adventurous, snickers, black forest...you get the idea. And gellato, really its an experience, everyone should have some. On Tuesday nights they have a open mic and slam, where a lot of young local poets come out and show their stuff, its great place to see local talent. All in all they are a must try for anyone in midtown.
