The Coffee Garden combines local art, comfy chairs, lots of plants, an overall comfortable environment to hang out in, lots of sofas, weird/cool metal art things, large and small glazed pottery vases... and well of course coffee!

It's all about the ambience! From the art on the walls constantly changing, and the eclectic garden out back it's a grat place to enjoy lunch or coffee with friends or a good book. If you have a group who wants to meet or you just need a quiet room to knock out some studying, there's a "secret" confrence/study room with plenty of room to sit down and plug in.

Along with the cool garden and sweet ambience the Coffee Garden offers a variety of tasty treets including salads, sandwiches, pizza, and soups in the winter. Plus the coffee house standard scones, muffins, quiche. We have a wide array of hot coffees and teas... or, if it's just that hot out, we'll blend it right up so you can beat that Sacramento heat!

Terrible Service and faulty business

by ShellyRobinson, Friday 25 of December, 2009 (13:33:24)

Not only is the service terrible but the owner is a slum lord... He owns apartments and housing in sacramento but fails to maintain them only concintrating on his precious coffee shop. When customers aren't happy he blames the customers and not the employees... kinda seems backwards... This isn't the worst of it... While you are going there and paying taxes he is not... He pays several of his employees under the table and does not pay taxes on there wages. Michael Madsen is a slum lord who doesn't pay taxes and doesn't care if you don't like the customer service that comes out of his shop... He is very cheap and is more about quantity then quality... Please save yourself a head ache and avoid this rat trap...

Poor Service.

by mmm, Saturday 21 of March, 2009 (00:22:24)

When so many companies are going out of business you would think that the few that are still going want to have great if not perfect customer service.

This morning I called and spoke with Stacy-she didn't say a proper intro so I didn't even know if it was the Coffee Garden. I had to ask!! I then ask her if there is a band playing tonight at 7 there-she said no right away. I asked if she was sure and she THEN said let me check(shouldn't she have checked first); she came back and told me no there was a quartet at 4. I then stated that the band I was interested in seeing has that they are playing at seven. She then told me to hold on and she came back and stated yes there is a band at seven. What!  First it was no, then a quartet then now finally a band. Maybe she hadn't had her coffee for the day.

I ask her to pass a message to who ever handles the website calender because it doesn't show anything for tonight. She stated I should call and Talk to MIke(the owner)- I asked her couldn't she just pass the message that it should be updated. She then said okay and h/u. WOW...service to die for. I love the band and so do my friends but I dislike poor service. I called back and got the # and name of the manager.

I email the manager and give him the above info.

I get a call on my back line which is weird. Guess who it is Mike Madsen the owner. The first statement out of his mouth to me was 'I heard you were rude to my employee'...I laughed asking what is this in regards to. He stated she was the owner and his employee the "GREAT" Stacy had given him a message which I never left with her. She told him quite a different story as usual with difficult employees. Needless to say he told me that yes she should have checked before telling me two wrong answers which would have saved so much time but I guess he may pay her for time wasted. Where can I get a job like that?

Nothing was resolved. And now seeing as I was attacked verbally over the phone for doing nothing wrong but inquiring about who was playing. Mike should learn some customer service skills you don't attack potential patrons just because of what an employee says. At this point with the economy like it is you would think he would have asked me what was the issue before accusing me of being rude. I'm sorry in the business world I THOUGHT customer service was important.

Too bad Patti is not there anymore

by kh_475, Thursday 19 of February, 2009 (18:31:44)

I don't know what happened between Patti (who was there in the morning) and the owner but whatever it was that happened I'm very sorry she is not there anymore. I loved going there in the morning because she was there. And I am positive I am not the only one who felt that way. She knew the name of most people that came in and had a little conversation with everyone. I have noticed the few times that I've been there since she left that there are not as many people there in the a.m. now. Too bad. The owner would do well to make up with her and rehire her and be happy she is there.

The Coffee Garden – A Tropical Retreat in Sactown

by krishna harrison, Saturday 18 of October, 2008 (18:18:22)
So, I was privileged to be able to attend the opening of The Coffee Garden. Since then I have been bringing many a happy patron to this wonderful coffee house. The Coffee Garden is unique in it’s aesthetic appeal and focus on atmosphere. The garden is a highlight of the space. With white lights, metal art and garden goodies galore, you feel like you are away from the hustle and bustle of the city when you sip your drink at The Coffee Garden. Do yourself a favor and give the Coffee Garden a try. You may find yourself dreaming of trips to Bali while you’re there! Not bad, eh!

Excellent garden setting...

by Laurie, Monday 13 of October, 2008 (15:29:58)

that's about it.  For a low expectation cup of coffee, perhaps a mediocre snack and some brief interaction with distracted employees, this is your place.  I went here with a friend and we absolutely loved the garden.  Period.

I'm going to try again after reading the reviews before mine.  Maybe it was just a bad day.  Those people that totally care about my business, comfort and happiness must have had the day off.

The best coffee place in all of Sac!

by Phoenix, Monday 29 of September, 2008 (09:03:28)

I can’t even tell you how happy I am to have found this place! I just moved from the city and was looking for a great coffee place to hang out and study, and this place has it all! Cozy couches 1oo’s of outlets for your lap top, free wi-fi, yummy food, and an amazing garden (dog friendly) out back! Even on hot days the garden is cooled by fans and misters making it more like a oasis. All this is fabulous but the very best thing about Coffee Garden is the staff and the owner they TOTALLY care about your business, comfort and happiness!—hard to believe, but true! My friend was studying outside at night and the owner brought her a lamp for more light. He has worked on my lap top when I was having problems with my internet, brought me extension cords, and even was willing to watch a stray dog my friend found in the street!
I love this place. Good coffee, great atmosphere, good food, and amazing service, couldn’t ask for anything more!

When I first made it over to Coffee Garden I was amazed at the beautiful and peaceful garden-like atmosphere in the back patio. I was not expecting it. The interior of the coffee shop provides a great environment for studying, reading or working. Plus, the coffee and pastries are wonderful. Come on a Second Saturday and check out its entertainment or go next door to Tangent Gallery and see one of their great local art shows.

Good coffee, good food and good atmosphere. They have quality coffee and espresso, with a little of everything, ranging from your basic coffee to more elaborate drinks. They have good eats too, from scones, to sandwiches to dessert. It also is a great place to do work, they have free wifi and tons of tables inside and out to do work on. Its both a wonderful student spot and neighborhood hangout. Most weekends (Thursday-Sunday) they have at least one (or more) event(s), either a band or an open mic. Its really a great addition to the neighborhood!
