The tradition of fine cuisine at Espanol goes all the way back to 1923, when it was located at 114 J Street and served the traditional cuisine from Europe's Basque Region. In 1952 the building on J Street was sold and Espanol moved to Old Sacramento into a commercial hotel at 3rd and I Street.
Several years later, in 1959, the restaurant was bought by Babe Luigiand his brother Mario. With new owners and the name and cuisine change that followed, Espanol Italian Restaurant was re-introduced to Sacramento. The Luigi brothers have been serving the residents and visitors of Sacramento true Italian Specialties ever since.
Five years after adding the Italian Flair to Espanol, the redevelopment in Old Sacramento caused the popular restaurant to relocate to its present location. Today, the restaurant continues to be run by the Luigi Family and continues to be one of Sacramento's Best Italian Restaurants.
Babe's three children, Perry, Paula and Karen are proud to serve you in Espanol's friendly atmosphere, which has kept customers happy for three generations.

Re: Old World Charm
We went there tonight on the 23rd of Jan. and we arrived at 5:10 and we were never served by 7:30 so left. We did get served cocktails of course. Ended up leaving. Poor service and what food we did receive I could have made at home!
Espanol Italian Restaurant
Good food, reasonably priced. the service was good also. You cannot go wrong for a famiy dinner here.
Old World Charm
We love to stop in to our old standby. You can always count on the heaping, helping of soup. And I always bring home goodies.
Good Old Food
This place has been around forever, my husband and I go about every 3 months. You get soup..the best minestrone you have ever had, salad, tea/coffee, ice cream with your meal. the food is good, filling, and Italian. You will go home with a doggy bag everytime. during the winter time when my husband gets a cold, I call in an order for soup and baguette of bread (foot long), it's really cheap, I go pick it up and make his day. This is a very casual restaurant that has not been updated since the 70's, don't let that fool you, the service is good. The only negative thing I can say is the wine is over priced for the brands they serve and the size of the wine glass is quite small, but they do have a bar that servces hard liquor and my husband says they make a good strong drink . Other than that it worth your while to try this place once, great place to take the parents or grandparents if they have never been there.
Great Real Italian Food
Thank you for the good food as well as soup. Prices are so reasonable. Ample parking place.
