Food is good, but overpriced and slow service
The food is good, but it is very overpriced. The service is s-l-o-w. You should try it, but do not be looking for a bargain or be in a hurry.
Always the best Mexican in the area
I discovered Tres Hermanas about 10 years ago... and I've been coming back regularly ever since. Their food is always fantastic (and for all newcomers, always order the salad with creamy cilantro dressing when given the option), and the staff are generally really friendly (but my husband and I have been regulars for quite some time now). Lately they have hired some new staff who aren't quite as warm and charming as the original ladies, but to be quite honest, I'll put up with effecient (if not warm and fuzzy) service to get the best Mexican around any day. Our personal faves: chicken mole poblano, carnitas, crispy chicken taco, the salsa (insider tip: you can ask for the "hot" salsa that they keep in the back... beware that although it can sometimes not deliver on the "hotness" you expect, the regular salsa can have a pretty good kick and the hot salsa can smoke you out!).
Fantastic flavorful food
Tres Hermanas consistently delivers the most flavorful food I find anywhere, and I eat out a LOT at fine restaurants. I've eaten there many times over the past 10 years, and only once had a less than satisfying meal. The salad dressing has been often mentioned, and is excellent, but for me the tortillas really score. Fresh and hot. I've never had better. The margaritas are also fantastic. The food is plentiful and always very good. For me, $12 for a complete meal with soup or salad doesn't seem really expensive. I know Mexican can be quite cheap (we also eat often at Sal's) but the quality at Tres Hermanas is very much worth it. As far as service, since I've been a regular for years, I'm probably not the best judge. It's not always great, but then it can be VERY busy at times. Anyway, I give it a hardy recommendation!
Dirty, Greasy, Slow
I feel that tres hermanas has the most authentic mexican food i have had on the grid. I love eating here when in the mood for mexican. It's close, but not exactly as close to my moms.
Great food... Ok service
So I'm not looking for anyone to put a napkin in my lap and cut my enchilada for me but the service at Tres Hermana's is not exactly kind. The food however is wonderful and that's the main reason I come back. The margaritas ain't bad either. :) I recommend the Camarones. Yum!
Great Food
Sin queso
I asked for a meal without cheese. It came with cheese bits here and there. I sent it back and clarified that I didn't want any cheese in it, and added that it had probably gotten tossed in by accident (through mixing of prep ingredients and a hectic kitchen). But when the dish came back again...once again I found cheese in it. I can understand the first time, but the second time they should have been more careful. I really wanted to like this place,....but it's just not for me.
Unpretentious, good food
I eat at Tres Hermana about every two weeks. Service is fast and polite. I love the house salad dressing, the ceviche salad and the carnitas. Takeout is packaged nicely with all the extras.
Not that good
good food but don't count on your reservation
Wow!
I have not been able to find good Mexican food since I moved from San Diego. Tres Hermanas impressed me greatly and I recommend it to everyone. Some people say it's a little pricey, but it's not a taco stand. It's a whole experience including the ambience, the food, the drinks and the people. The amount and quality of the food is exquisite and makes Tres Hermanas one of my top five restaurants in Sacramento. Try the Carnitas! To die for........
Tasty Mexican, Snug Atmosphere
If the restaurant is busy, it can be tough to get a seat. But what that translates to in the restaurant business is quality food and good service if the crowds come back week after week, and they do. The food is very tasty and not too salty, an issue I have with many Mexican places. The prices are a bit higher than other places in this level of dining, but if you skip the drinks and stick with dinner it can be affordable for those on a budget. My only issue is in the past there was some errant meat in my veggie dish, which was concerning for me as a vegetarian. I did not mention it to the staff though.
Great for sitting down to some Mexican eats!
The best mexican food in the grid. They have great salsas, a daily soup, and some pretty tasty lunch specials. Their prices are pretty high for what you normally pay at similar restaurants, but you certainly get quality for it in return.
Tres Hermanas
By Aaris A. Schroeder
The last time I visited Tres Hermanas on K St. in Midtown was spring ’07. I went inside and ordered a Negra Modelo to cool down from the late spring heat. Looking over the menu and with a craving for Mexican food, I had to try the seafood Ceviche. It came with chips and a hard corn tortilla. Finding good Ceviche in Sacramento is hard and they have mastered the craft.
The food wasn’t priced as low as I would have liked but after spending roughly $25 on beer, water and lunch, I left feeling satisfied.
