The Book Collector offers a wide selection of used and out-of-print books at reasonable prices. Rachel Hansen opened the store in 1995 with help from her husband, Richard. In 1998, they added their daughter, Ruhiyyih, to the staff. With a stock of around 15,000 volumes, The Book Collector buys, sells, and trades books in most subjects, including:

  • Children's Books
  • Cookbooks

They also carry rare books, antiquarian books, and modern first editions. While several of Sacramento's used bookstores have closed in the last nine years, The Book Collector has expanded and continues to be one of the best places in Sacramento to find quality used books. Come in and browse!

Don't go there and don't call. Apparently asking a simple question about one author is more than the "subsitute" can handle. Don't waste your time.

this small independent book store is great to shop at when you have an idea of what you have in mind, but are not 100% settled on a title. head there with a little spare time and a short list of authors or a favorite genre and enjoy. old gems and new titles alike grace diverse book shelves. also, i LOVE their little poetry books by the register. wonderful little gems!

Great bookstore that's so intimate and cozy. Even though their children's section is small, I found some really special books for my daughter....the old books that reminded me of the ones I grew up with - and you can't beat the prices! The owner Rachel and her family are lovely and very helpful.

Great bookstore, they have an eclectic array of books, especially those hard to find ones, childhood favorites or underground classics. They have a little bit of everything, including many of the books big chain stores don't carry, and literally every inch of the store is covered in books. They also are tapped into the literary world of Sacramento, hosting poetry nights and book readings, including many local favorites! They are a great bookstore right in the heart of midtown.
