Description
September exhibit in artspace1616 features works by two artists, Christine Hodgins and Susanne Isabel Bockelmann.
Christine Hodgins passed away 6 years ago and left us with a legacy: a warehouse full of art. This body of work last seen at the Morris Grave Museum in Eureka was stored and stowed away in a garage and the unearthing of this art was not unlike a rebirth. Curated by Gwenna Howard, the exhibit is collaborative work between two galleries, Walburg Gallery 1632 and artspace1616.
The linocut prints by Susanne Isabel Bockelmann are defined by immense sensibility. Powerful drawing stands in contrast to the fragility of material, thin China paper. The iconography reminiscent of cave paintings conveys longing for places unknown. Susanne lives and works in Germany and her work is shown internationally. Artspace1616 is pleased to show Bockelmanโs work to Sacramento audience. The artist will be present at the reception.
