Description
Come REMEMBER your loved ones and CELEBRATE with your community at Oak Park’s third annual observance of Día de los Muertos!
Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead as it is known in English, is a holiday for remembrance of deceased family and friends, as well as a celebration of life for the living. With roots that reach back up to 3,000 years to Pre-Columbian times and forged through the fusion of the beliefs of many indigenous groups with Roman Catholicism and Spanish tradition at contact, it has evolved over the nearly 500 years since into the Día de los Muertos we know today.
JOIN US on Friday, November 2nd at Broadway and 36th St. at The Brickhouse from 5 pm – 9:30 pm for a community celebration that includes tributes or altares for deceased loved ones in a reproduced cemetery scene, live traditional Mexican music on two stages, dance performances, food vendors, artists, free kids’ crafts, and more! This is a free event.
Also available, self guided altar tours!
