September Second Saturday Dedicated to Michael Himovitz

Fifteen years ago this month - September 27, 1994 - Michael Himovitz, owner of the Michael Himovitz Gallery at 1020 10th Street, and co-founder of Second Saturday, lost a difficult battle with HIV.

In 1984, Michael, along with a few neighboring galleries, founded Second Saturday. The event, which has grown year after year, connected art lovers and collectors and gave Michael the chance to discuss his passion and educate the community about art.

To celebrate his legacy, on Septemer 12, several Sacramento galleries are dedicating their September shows to Michael. Each gallery will also have donation boxes set up so patrons can donate to CARES' (Center for AIDS Research, Education and Services) Are You the Difference? Campaign, a hopeful and ambitious initiative dedicated to eradicating all new cases of HIV in the Sacramento region within the next five years.
