Souls of the City Art Exhibit // Burnett Gallery

Curated by Sol Collective, the Souls of the City art exhibit is the premiere exhibit in the Sacramento History Museum’s new R. Burnett Miller Gallery featuring the work of several regional artists and including a vibrant memorial altar to Burnett Miller.  *The exhibit is located on the third level of the Museum and is free with paid Museum admission.

Skulls and Skeletons Printmaking workshop w/ Maestro Luis R. Campos-Garcia

Led by Sol Collective Arts Director Luis “Lurac” Campos-Garcia, this fun and creative workshop introduces participants to the history of printmaking, tools, and techniques of relief and block printing as well as to Mexican culture and the importance of Día de los Muertos. All participants will make their own prints to take home.

Honoring Our Past Event

After the museum has closed for the day, a special “Honoring Our Past” evening event – that is free to the public – will take place to discuss the meaning and history of Dia de los Muertos while also honoring the community members for the community impact they make.

Paper Flowers and Crowns workshop w/Sol Collective team

Guests are invited to join the fun as the Sol Collective team leads a hands-on exploration of the creative process and history behind paper flowers and crowns. Guests are then able to make their own to take home.

Plaster Mask Workshop w/ Maestra Amar Azucena Cid

This workshop will teach the traditions of creating Dia De Los Muertos masks using plaster. These masks are traditionally used to hide one’s identity during Dia De Los Muertos ceremony. Participants will learn the techniques behind plaster mask making and decoration. This workshop is hands-on and communal. All participants will leave with a custom created plaster mask they have created.

Dia de Los Muertos Exhibit Opening

On display until November 4, Sol Collective brings together artists both locally and globally to participate in our yearly Dia De Los Muertos Art Show. The exhibit opening is free for the whole family with refreshments and live music.

Mini Altar Workshop w/ Maestra Florentina Favela

Florentina Favela, local artist and teacher, will be instructing the Mini Altar workshop at the Sol Collective this year for the eighth year running. Guests are invited to join in the preparations to honor loved ones with a miniature altar to display in their homes, offices, or classrooms. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own personal photo (smaller sized photocopies work best) and other items of importance to loved ones to set up personal altars with mini pan dulce, candles, flowers, and other items to add to the ofrenda. This workshop is suitable for all ages.
