Blood donors are needed this summer! Give blood at the 22nd Annual Univision Blood Drive at Cal Expo on Friday, June 16. Know your generous blood donation helps patients and as a special thank you, receive one admission ticket to the California State Fair.

Parking is free for blood donors in Lot D on 1600 Exposition Blvd.

Almost everyone can donate blood but only 3% of eligible donors actually donate! Let’s change that!

Vitalant collects several thousand fewer donations during the summer season because those who donate regularly are on vacation and schools take a summer break. But patients continue to need blood for countless reasons including injuries sustained in motor vehicle and recreational accidents, effects of cancer treatments, post-childbirth massive blood loss, blood disorders, burn injuries and more. The need for blood affects everyone because a patient who needs blood can be a child, a teen, a mom or dad, a neighbor or co-worker, a grandparent, or someone who crosses your path every day. Let’s make sure we have the blood needed to support patients through crises that can affect any one of us.

Details:

Donors must be in good general health and feel good on the day of donation.
Donors must be at least 16 years old (with parent/guardian written permission on form available at vitalant.org) – there is no upper age limit.
Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds.
Bring a photo ID.
Hydrate well (non-alcoholic drinks) at least 24 hours prior to donating.
Eat within two hours ahead of your donation.
