ARTHOUSE ON R proudly presents the exhibition “Thresholds” at Arthouse Gallery on historic R Street in Sacramento, November 6 – December 1, 2025. Please join us as we feature the intricate vessels of Louise McGowan Bezark at ARTHOUSE on R Gallery, 1021 R Street in Sacramento. The opening reception, including an opportunity to meet the artist, is Saturday, November 8 from 5:00PM – 8:00PM. During the reception, Louise will give an artist talk at 6:00PM.

“Thresholds” presents a visual interpretation of of how our beginning and endings – our starts, stops, entrances, and exits – shape our becoming. In every life, there are moments we stand at the edge of something new – or let go of something we have outgrown. These moments, these THRESHOLDS are not just transitions. They are sacred pauses – liminal spaces where the soul is most alive, most tender, and most open open to transformation.

This exhibition invites viewers to consider threshold not as voids or uncertainties, but as powerful initiation – places where growth begins, endings bless us, and the unseen becomes visible. Drawing on her spiritual path, THRESHOLDS honors the quiet wisdom found in change, stillness, and becoming.

Louise McGowan Bezark is a Northern California sculptor whose intricate vessels emerge from

a practice rooted in craftsmanship, contemplation, and spirit. Working primarily with Lagenaria siceraria (bottle gourd), she transforms humble organic forms through carving, assembling, painting, and gilding – elevating each into an object of reverence and reflection, you could say she paints with fire!

An ordained interfaith clergy with deep roots in Western and Eastern spiritual practices. Louise approaches her art as a sacred discipline. Her creative process is a dialogue between the material and the soul, guided by intuition and ritual. With each piece, she explores the liminal – moments of transition, stillness, and transformation.

“I believe we are all vessels – shaped by what we carry, and what we release,” McGowan Bezark says. “These pieces are meditations on the quiet transitions that often define us more than any single moment.”

Louise’s work has been shown in galleries across California and is part of collections worldwide. She is regionally celebrated for the exceptional quality and emotional depth of her work. She is affiliated with six respected galleries, including High Hand Art Gallery, The Artery, and the Crocker Museum Store.

She lives and works in Northern California, where the landscape and the spirit of place continue to inform her practice.
