Description

The trip will start on Sunday evening October 3rd. The CAM cruise is October 2nd so those of you want to attend that can and then travel to Philadelphia the next day. We will be staying at an airport hotel that has an airport shuttle and will be having dinner at a Cracker Barrel next door. For the rest of the trip, we will be staying at only 2 other hotels.

The trips main attraction is Hershey/AACA fall meet in the middle of the trip, but the Hershey visit will not be a strictly car event for those who are not as interested in cars. While some of us are visiting the swap meet, car corral, concours and other car events, Gayle will be visiting some of the following sights:
Hershey’s Chocolate World
Hershey Story Museum
Hershey Gardens
The Historic Hershey Hotel
The Vineyard and Winery at Hershey
Tanger Outlet mall
And, knowing Gayle, at least one brewery.

On Monday, October 4th the bus will pick us up and take us first to the Antique Automobile Club Museum in Hershey. This is a great museum with a vintage bus museum in the basement. We will have lunch and then visit the Museum of the Civil War in nearby Harrisburg setting the stage for our Gettysburg visit on Wednesday. We will be staying in Harrisburg at the same hotel for the next 6 nights. Dinner nearby the hotel.

On Tuesday, October 5th Amish day. We will be heading to Lancaster County for some Amish immersion and shopping with lunch together. Back to Harrisburg for dinner nearby the hotel.

Wednesday, October 6th we will be heading to Gettysburg. We will visiting the National Military Park and Visitors Center. We will likely see the Gettysburg Diorama and do a limited battlefield tour. Lunch in Gettysburg. On the way back to Harrisburg, we will be visiting the Pennsylvania Racing Museum.

October 7-9 Thursday through Saturday. The car folks will be taken to the Hershey, AACA fall meet grounds. There is a huge swap meet, car corral and on Saturday the concours. The non-car people will visit aforementioned sights with Gayle. Lunch for all will be on your own but dinner will be nearby the hotel.

October 10th, Sunday We will be taking the bus back to Philadelphia and visiting the famous Simeone Automotive Museum. This is a real treat as this museum’s focus is on vintage race cars and they have some spectacular pieces. We will lunch in Philadelphia and then get dropped off at the Wyndham Hotel – Philadelphia Historic District where we will spend the next 4 nights. This is a 4-star, full-service hotel but best of all, it is directly across the street from The National Constitution Center, Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and the US Mint. Dinner nearby the hotel.

October 11th – 13th, Monday – Wednesday. As a group we will visit the Independence Visitors Center, Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell and then lunch as a group. Monday afternoon, Tuesday and Wednesday we will visit some of the following sights:
United States Mint
Betsy Ross House
Independence Seaport Museum
Museum of the American Revolution
Benjamin Franklin Museum
Franklin Print Shop
The Battleship New Jersey (ferry ride across the river)
Philadelphia Museum of Art (with Rocky steps!)
Reading Street Terminal Market (very cool!)

And, literally dozens of other sights. Most of these are within easy walking distance but some are more than a few blocks away. Never fear, the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce sponsors a hop-on/off bus that does a loop at many sights and stops at each once every 15 minutes. They charge $2 per ride but only take exact change so stock up on $1s. Gayle and I will be visiting these sights also but you are more than welcome to go to some or all on your own. Most of the sights are free but those that charge a fee are not included in the trip fee and lunch Tuesday and Wednesday will be on your own.
Thursday, October 14. Exhausted, we head home!
