Description
Cyanotype is one of the few non-silver techniques used to make photographic images the cyanotype was invented in the 1840s by English scientist and astronomer Sir John Herschel and it was Anne Atkin who brought it to its notoriety. In this workshop, you learn the basic principles and chemistry of cyanotypes. We also cover substrates, exposure and the possibilities of this historic process. You are encouraged to bring digital images, botanicals and collage materials from home to use for contact printing. Don’t fret if you can’t get your hands-on objects, we’ll have lots of options to work with. All other materials will be provided. This will be an introductory class and no experience necessary. Can be messy – bring an apron or wear clothes you don’t mind ruining.

"The City’s Recycling and Solid Waste Division this spring is offering a series of free in-person backyard composting seminars to help residents learn how to turn food scraps into compost right in their own backyard.
Attendees will learn about decomposition at a local community garden and discover how to recycle leaves, yard clippings, fruit, and vegetable scraps. Additionally, they’ll receive a demonstration on using a “Geobin” composter and learn about composting materials.
Tips will be shared on how to achieve the right balance of food, air, and moisture, how to maintain compost piles, and home gardening."

"City staff will be giving away free wood mulch to Sacramento residents on May 4 at the Sacramento Marina (2710 Ramp Way).
There will be a limit of one cubic yard of mulch per customer during the event, which will take place from 8 a.m. to noon or while supplies last.
Attendees can also get free bagged and loose compost, which can improve soil health."
