Esham – Hailing from the brutal streets of Detroit, lyricist, producer, and storyteller Esham grew up in a melting pot of sounds. Motown and pop; rock-n-roll and hip-hop. He loved it all. But he noticed artists from his hometown were absent from hip-hop. At the time there were only east coast and west coast rappers – hip-hop fans knew what was going on in the cities of California and the boroughs of New York, but no one knew what was going on in the streets of Detroit. He decided he was going to be the first one to tell the world what was going on.

He combined the imagery and shock value of controversial rock stars Kiss, Ozzy, and Prince, with the originality and style of equally controversial hip hop artists NWA, the Geto Boys, and Too Short. There was sex, drugs, rock-n-roll, and now religion –Esham’s way of upping the ante. This new sound was unlike anything anyone had ever heard – it was the Wicket Shit. At 15, his debut release “Boomin Words from Hell” became an instant classic, selling over 100K copies solely by word-of-mouth.

Esham’s entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and brazen sampling got him out of the streets and into the cassette decks of rebellious kids, into the CD players of the countless artists he’s influenced, and saved to the playlists of a new generation of fans craving something authentic and unique. With 50+ releases and counting, Esham continues to blaze his own trails and reinvent his sound – giving fans (and critics) something to talk about for years to come.
