In an effort to keep the community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, the local museum community is proud to present a fun and free “I ♥ Museum Month” during February 2021. Coordinated by Sacramento Area Museums (SAM), more than 15 local museums (and counting!) are participating in the engaging effort by offering digital, virtual and/or social activations for the community to experience and enjoy from the comfort of home. “I ♥ Museum Month” is being held in lieu of the annual Free Museum Day, an incredibly popular event known to draw large crowds that has taken place for the last 22 consecutive years.

"The City’s Recycling and Solid Waste Division this spring is offering a series of free in-person backyard composting seminars to help residents learn how to turn food scraps into compost right in their own backyard.
Attendees will learn about decomposition at a local community garden and discover how to recycle leaves, yard clippings, fruit, and vegetable scraps. Additionally, they’ll receive a demonstration on using a “Geobin” composter and learn about composting materials.
Tips will be shared on how to achieve the right balance of food, air, and moisture, how to maintain compost piles, and home gardening."

Sacramento Marina, 2710 Ramp Way
"City staff will be giving away free wood mulch to Sacramento residents on May 4 at the Sacramento Marina (2710 Ramp Way).
There will be a limit of one cubic yard of mulch per customer during the event, which will take place from 8 a.m. to noon or while supplies last.
Attendees can also get free bagged and loose compost, which can improve soil health."
