Description
The Latino Center of Art and Culture (LCAC), with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, invites visitors to celebrate Mexican culture during its first annual Oaxaca En Sacramento event.
“Oaxaca En Sacramento: Honoring the Mondays of the Hill” respectfully honors the original Guelaguetza celebration that takes place in Oaxaca, Mexico. The Guelaguetza incorporates the traditions of peoples from eight distinct regions across the State of Oaxaca (Los Valles Centrales, La Sierra Juárez, La Cañada, Papaloapan, La Mixteca, La Costa, La Sierra Sur and the Istmo de Tehuantepec) through their unique dances, dress and traditions.
The celebration begins with a Convite from Miller Park to the center stage of the LCAC. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample traditional Oaxacan food and beverages and enjoy live music and dances performed by the talented students from Lico Music Academy. The celebration will also include a musical performance by Patricia Alcaraz, a talented artist traveling directly from Oaxaca. She will be accompanied by musical group Lico from Oaxaca.
