The  University Union at Sacramento State is pleased to announce a February blood drive, happening Monday, February 17th,  through Thursday, February 20th in the University Union Ballroom from 10am until 4pm. The blood drive is co-sponsored by Sac State’s Associated Students, Inc, CAMP, The Hornet Bookstore, The University Union, The WELL, and Vitalant (formerly known as BloodSource) in support of the Cesar Chavez National Blood Drive Competition.

This blood drive is partnered with Vitalant, which has 127 donation centers nationwide and more than 30,000 blood drives per year.

Sac State hosts blood drives on campus at least three times per year. This past Fall 2019 semester, we hosted our annual Causeway Classic Blood Drive against UC Davis, and for the first time in 7 years we won the blood drive for the most blood and bone marrow donations, and brought the Blood Drive trophy to Sac State. This blood drive saw 1,465 people show up to donate, and collected over 1,100 lifesaving pints of blood, between both Sac State and UC Davis. Of the nations population, 38% of people are capable of donating, and typically only around 10% of people actually donate.

Sac State aims to make a huge difference in the health, comfort, and satisfaction of the lives of blood drive recipients, each year, with all of our blood drives. Blood donation saves the lives of accident victims, surgery patients, cancer patients and many others in need. Donating blood is safe, easy and takes about an hour. Sac State’s faculty and staff members are eligible for a “Fast Track” pass, which expedites the check-in process. Blood donors must weigh 110 pounds or more, be in overall good health and 17 years old or older, 16 with a signed Vitalant parental consent form. Participants should eat a healthy breakfast and drink water prior to donating. The blood drive is open to students, faculty/ staff and the general public at no cost. As a thank you, all participants will receive a t-shirt.

Please bring a photo ID to this event. Also, feel free to join the “Be the Match” marrow registry. If you are interested in volunteering, contact SacStateBloodDrive@gmail.com.
