Due to the nature of current circumstances with the Corona Virus, many of our respected speakers who were scheduled to speak are mitigating a flurry of situations within our community and will not be able to speak at this current meeting.

We are planning a large virtual meeting, because we are just as confused as you are, and are all in this together. Fear is dangerously contagious, but the most complex creative ideas usually emerge from dark weird periods like these…so what are we doing about it?

This will be a video chat for a large group discussing :

  • How we are each making the most of this period?
  • What is the city’s economic relief package and is it for the Creative Economy?
  • How can we help each other?
  • Is there a silver lining or lesson here?

We are going to keep this meeting fluid as things are constantly changing. Councilman Eric Guerra has this video conference meeting on his calendar. This could change, but we are grateful to have civic leaders to help us navigate. We will update this event periodically as we get more information.

Out of an abundance of caution and to align with current public health recommendations regarding COVID-19, this will be a virtual meeting, in the form of a large video conference. Please sign up to join so we know how many will be on the video chat and can appropriately prepare.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS: Just canceling, didn’t feel right. We may not be able to be in the same physical room, but that does not mean we still can’t unite, organize and be a supportive community. So we are holding a video conference meeting, where up to 500 people can be on a video chat. We have the tech – let us use it for good!

With kindness 🙂

THIS WILL BE A DIGITAL ONLINE CONFERENCE MEETING DUE TO CDC ADVISORY OF LIMITING IN PERSON GATHERINGS – LINKS TO JOIN THE CONFERENCE WILL BE SHARED WITH REGISTERED GUESTS.

What is the creative economy?

The creative economy has no single definition. It is an evolving concept which builds on the interplay between human creativity and ideas and intellectual property, knowledge, and technology. Essentially it is the knowledge-based economic activities upon which the ‘creative industries’ are based.

The creative industries – which include advertising, architecture, arts and crafts, design, fashion, film, video, photography, music, performing arts, publishing, research & development, software, computer games, electronic publishing, and TV/radio – are the lifeblood of the creative economy. They are also considered an important source of commercial and cultural value.

The creative economy is the sum of all the parts of the creative industries, including trade, labor, and production. Today, the creative industries are among the most dynamic sectors in the world economy providing new opportunities for developing countries to leapfrog into emerging high-growth areas of the world economy.
