Description

They made it through the pandemic closure and now the historic Woodland Opera House is back! Opening its 2021-2022 season is the much-anticipated production of Singin’ in the Rain, presented by Tom and Meg Stallard and set for September 17 – October 10. The stage show, based on the 1952 movie which is considered by many as the “Greatest Movie Musical of All Time,” was faithfully and lovingly adapted by Broadway legends Betty Comden and Adolph Green, from their original award-winning screenplay.

In the Woodland Opera House production, Erik Catalan is cast as the popular silent film star, Don Lockwood, Kirsten Myers as the aspiring actress Kathy Selden, and Eddie Voyce as Don’s best friend, Cosmo Brown. The plot focuses on romantic lead Don and his sidekick Cosmo, as they conspire with Kathy on what to do about Don’s shallow leading lady, Lina Lamont, played by Patricia Glass. Lina is convinced that they are in love, despite Don’s protestations otherwise. But Don is smitten with Kathy, and with the emergence of talking pictures, Don, Cosmo, and Kathy are certain that Lina’s grating voice will become a problem in Don & Lina’s next picture. Don and Cosmo pitch the idea that Kathy dub Lina’s voice and though the premiere of the movie is a success, soon their fakery is revealed.

Needless to say, the story line has many twists and turns, but the standout is the song and dance sequences. Topping off the show is the ever-iconic production number of the show’s title, performed by Don. You will not want to miss this! Underwritten by Tom and Meg Stallard, Singin’ in the Rain is directed by Rodger McDonald – his 14th Woodland Opera House directing project.  Along with music direction by Jia-Min Rosendale, costume design by Denise Miles, choreography by Darryl Strohl-DeHerrera, set design by Mark Deamer and constructed by Mike Cartwright, light designer is Nikki Pendley and stage manager is Melissa Dahlberg.
