Description

October 1-14, various locations in Old Sacramento.

Sol Collective and the Sacramento History Museum and Alliance are proud to invite the community to once again celebrate Dia de los Muertos in Old Sacramento. In order to keep our communities safe and healthy from COVID-19 this year we are offering an alternative experience to the annual Souls of the City Dia de los Muertos festival. Old Sacramento will be hosting an interactive exhibit displayed throughout several buildings including The Daily Union, Fat City, Lady Adams, and many more. Most of the altars, installations, and artwork will be indoors and on display through the outside windows.

The exhibit will be available for the public to view October 1st through November 6th.
Community members are encouraged to visit and enjoy as many times as they wish. We ask that everyone wear masks and practice social distancing. This is a family friendly exhibit and free for all ages.

Since 2011, Sol Collective has worked to bring the ancient tradition of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) to the Sacramento community. Shrouded in mysticism for many Americans, Day of the Dead is a Mexican tradition celebrating and honoring the lives of relatives and ancestors past. Sol Collective’s annual Souls of the City festival and cultural arts programming offer hands-on education about the deep-rooted history and traditions of Dia de los Muertos.

Sol Collective as well as the Sacramento History Museum and Alliance believe that it is through open education and sharing of cultures that respect, understanding, and equity are cultivated. Community members of all ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds are encouraged to come out, learn the history, and participate in honoring their passed loved ones.
