Lonely Are the Brave 12:05 pm

Produced in 1962 and based on the novel The Brave Cowboy: An Old Tale In A New Time by Edward Abbey, Lonely Are The Brave is a story of rugged individualism, a lone wanderer played by Kirk Douglas yearning for the open landscape of the untamed west who clashes with modern-day life.   Considered one of Kirk Douglas’ finest performances and notable as the personal favorite of all his films. Upon making the film, he exclaimed “It happens to be a point of view I love. This is what attracted me to the story – the difficulty of being an individual today.”

The Misfits 02:30 pm

Vivid in its characterization of the dying western culture in 1960’s America and how a changing world affects the lives of the characters, this is a story of a group of people lost in the wide expanse of the West in search of reclamation and renewal for their misspent lives.  The screenplay by Arthur Miller is notable as one of his most striking works.  This once nearly forgotten movie, after almost 60 years still very relevant, the last film of Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe is now recognized in film history as an underrated gem.
