About Winston Smith: Smith has been creating bold, politically charged collage art since the 1970s. By reworking cheerful imagery from mid 20th-century magazine ads, he exposes the contradictions of modern society with sharp wit and biting commentary. Best known for his work with Dead Kennedys, Smith designed the iconic “DK” emblem—now a global symbol of resistance to authoritarianism. His artwork has appeared on over 50 album covers, including for Green Day, Burning Brides, D.O.A, Ben Harper, Jello Biafra and George Carlin. His illustrations have also been featured in The New Yorker, Playboy, Spin, and more.
