Description

Get a behind-the-scenes look at the Crocker’s most well-known photographic works while learning about the role of photography in American life during the 1920s, ’30s, and ’40s. Taught by Associate Curator Jayme Yahr, the class will investigate photojournalism and the ways in which artists shaped popular magazines like LIFE, Look, and Parade.

Together, participants will ask and answer the question: What is documentary evidence, and what is art? Participants will also engage in lively dialogue and learn the fundamentals of analyzing photographs. Note: All participants need access to Zoom. Registration closes September 9 at midnight.

Jayme Yahr, Ph.D., is Associate Curator at the Crocker Art Museum and a specialist in American art, with an emphasis on the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Yahr works extensively with the Museum’s photography, Native American, and American works on paper collections. Some of her work on the Dust Bowl and the Crocker’s early photography collection can be found HERE and HERE.
