Shashari Kiburi is a visual artist and educator working primarily in textiles. Growing up in a sewing household, she observed and helped her mother who made clothes for her and her siblings. She got her chops quickly.

She has shown her work at the Oakland Museum, the Steinbeck Museum in Salinas, the Ontario Museum, the Crocker Museum, and Medicine for Nightmares in San Francisco. Her work was recently published in Patchwork Deutschland and the Modern Quilt Guild’s education resource library. Shashari is currently completing an MFA at VCFA and she teaches ceramics in Sacramento where she lives with her four children. Follow her current creative work on Instagram @ulaludie

This event is free with one book purchase, there will be stacks of books on fashion, textiles, fiber arts, African American and African Art. Come celebrate this remarkable tradition transformed by a brilliant local artist. No reservations necessary but arrive early as seats are limited. After Shashari’s presentation, we will have a brief interview and Q & A so bring your questions and ideas. As always, there will be snacks.
