The historic Woodland Opera House is proud to announce its next main stage production, Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, Our Town. Presented by Roger & Judy Kohlmeier and Kevin & Lorie Haarberg, Our Town tells the story of a small town at the turn of the century, Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire. The play was revolutionary when it was first produced in 1938, challenging the conventions of realism and theatrical storytelling – this 2022 production will breathe fresh life and fresh revolution into this old classic, reworking the staging and storytelling to challenge the theatrical conventions of today.

While Our Town is often professed to be a play about “universal truths,” a story about “all of America,” there’s only so much limited truth a story about a small white East Coast town in the 1900s can offer modern audiences. But with the help of a dedicated and diverse ensemble of creators, the Woodland Opera House will reckon with the text to tell a powerful modern tale of the complications of nostalgia and the need to continue always moving forward in our social progress.

The Opera House is thrilled to be welcoming LA-based director Anna Miles in her WHO directorial debut. In her 10+ years of experience, Anna has cultivated a distinct and innovative creative voice. She has gathered a stellar cast, and the venue looks forward to their new telling of this much beloved story.

Please note our current COVID protocols: While the Woodland Opera House is back to 100% capacity, currently the Yolo County Health Department requires face coverings for all of our patrons regardless of vaccination status. And for an added layer of protection for our guests, Opera House staff will take the temperature of all theatre attendees upon their entry.
