Description
Preservation Sacramento’s Preservation Roundtable, our quarterly membership meeting and forum for local history, historic preservation, environmental, and neighborhood groups, takes place on Saturday, February 29, at First Baptist Church, located at 2324 L Street. Enter via the parking lot on 23rd Street (free parking is available, first come first served), in the basement community room. This facility is accessible to persons with disabilities. The church, built in 1929, is a city landmark.
In honor of Black History Month, the Roundtable will feature a talk titled African American Historic Sites in Sacramento: What We Know, And What We Don’t Know Yet. This talk, presented by Preservation Sacramento board president William Burg, will discuss some of the existing places in Sacramento associated with African American history, including some that are already listed in the Sacramento Register and/or the National Register, and some places that are potentially eligible but not yet listed–followed by an open discussion of what other places still exist associated with Black history, from the Gold Rush through the Civil Rights era, and how they can be protected and recognized.
Continental breakfast (coffee, pastries and fruit) are provided at the Roundtable. We kindly request a $5 donation but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds.
