Description
Sometimes the hardest part of writing is knowing how to start. In this class we will focus on the process of writing for the stage with weekly in-class writing exercises and engaging prompts, designed to get you out of your head, for writing outside of class time. Utilizing scenes from published plays for exploration, each class session will focus on a different key element of playwriting including dialogue, structure, form and style, and so much more. Students will have the opportunity to hear their scenes read out loud and will receive individual feedback on all of their work. By the end of the course, students will have a collection of short scenes in varying styles that they can continue to build upon in the future, as well as a final short play. If there is interest among participants, the class will culminate with an invited virtual reading of final scene selections for friends and family. ALL LEVELS WELCOME!
Class Location: All classes happen online from the comfort of your home! Carissa will contact you with details once you are registered.
Class Times: (8 weeks) Mondays, 6:00 – 8:00 pm, from February 1 thru March 29, 2021.
