Please join us as we feature Jack McTiernan’s mixed media paintings at ARTHOUSE on R Gallery, 1021 R Street in Sacramento. The opening reception, which includes an opportunity to meet the artist, will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 5 to 8 PM. In addition, the artist will be available for a Q&A session, Sunday, April 27, from 1-2.

“Crossroads & Intersections” highlights how daily responsibilities distract from the beauty in everyday surroundings. We can find this beauty when we admire the shapes created by what mankind has manufactured to fill the landscape (buildings and bridges; even streetlights and stop signs.)

His current work explores the combination of materials through a multiple step process, to create dynamic backgrounds. These backgrounds consist of sequential layers of watercolor, pastel (combined with an acrylic varnish), and acrylic applied through spray paint or airbrush. The foreground is introduced onto the backgrounds with a custom process using a hand-cut stencil and graphite. The imagery created is then layered with ink, and a mixture of cold wax and oil paint.

In addition to the Gallery Show, ARTHOUSE resident artists will open their studios to the public on Second Saturday, April 12, from 5 to 8 PM.
