Canadian deathcore pioneers DESPISED ICON are back to reveal their 6th full length album: »Purgatory.« Not a theological band by any means, »Purgatory« is meant to represent the mortal experience of being trapped in a suffering state and left to brood; stuck in notions of great loss and permanent scars that will ultimately define you. It is from these incidents that humans grow. “It’s about taking the right, and necessary steps to better yourself and fix the things that are going wrong,” explains vocalist Alex Erian. “Transitioning from a state of constant negativity into something more constructive or healthy. It’s not about achieving perfection, but finding a middle ground between those good and bad impulses.” Guitarist Eric Jarrin explains: “The definition of ‘purgatory’ is a place of challenges where you go through difficulties and try to overcome them… and on a band level, it’s where we were when we wrote these songs.” Not only do the themes of »Purgatory« reflect the personal and internal struggles of the band, but the struggles of modern day society as a whole, and the current lack of compassion amongst mankind. “Even if the odds seem against us now more than ever, I’m still on the side of hope,” Erian reflects.
Perhaps their most dynamic venture to date, DESPISED ICON have a fresh and energy filled arrangement just waiting to see the light of day in the form of »Purgatory.« For many years, they have laid the foundation of deathcore and spearheaded different sounds and movements within the genre. Their latest offering will not leave those so impressed by their recent return in any way disappointed.
Mancunian slam crew INGESTED have built a reputation as one of the most savage death metal acts to come out of the UK for a long time. Punishing beat-downs, epic riffage, guttural vocals and blistering speed are just some of the weapons in Ingested’s musical arsenal.
2015 now sees Ingested return with their heaviest offering yet in the form of “The Architect Of Extinction”, mixed by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) and featuring mind blowing artwork from Toshihiro Egawa (who also did the artwork for the band’s debut record).
“The Architect Of Extinction” will be released January 12th on Century Media Records in Europe.
Ingested – Jason Evans (vocals) comments: “It’s took us three albums and two EP’s to find our sound, our identity as a band. This album is Ingested in it’s purest form; nihilistic, slamming death metal. Every lyric, guitar riff and drum beat on this album is delivered with utter sincerity, we fucking mean it this time. This is the album we have always wanted to create, this is THE ARCHITECT OF EXTINCTION.
Once again we enlisted the amazing art talents of Toshihiro Egawa, who we worked with on our debut album “Surpassing the Boundaries of Human Suffering” to produce yet another stunning, brutal masterpiece to compliment the audio assault we’ve captured on disc. This album was mixed by Christian Donaldson (Beneath the Massacre, The Last Felony and Cryptopsy) and features guest appearances by Julian Kersey (Aegaeon), Taylor Wientjes (The Kennedy Veil), James Schuster (Eighty Thousand Dead / Delusional Parasitosis) and Alex Terible (Slaughter to Prevail) who have contributed their very own brand of brutality to this record. This is our most definitive work to date and we can’t wait to unleash it on the world.”
Shadow of Intent was formed in 2014 as an internet-based project between vocalist Ben Duerr and instrumentalist Chris Wiseman. The band released their first EP called “Inferi Sententia” on July 18, 2014 and continued writing more music for the album that would be called “Primordial”.
In 2015 the band started releasing more songs and followed up with full length album “Primordial” on January 10, 2016 which rapidly started gaining traction on the internet. Over the next year the album “Reclaimer” was written and the lineup changed gears adding live members to perform in the music videos and eventually live shows.
The second studio album “Reclaimer” was released independently in 2017, selling 1,300 copies in its first week, and to this day has amassed over a million streams. In October the band announced its debut performance in December which would sell out the Webster Underground in Hartford, CT. Shortly after, the band was recruited by JJ Cassiere of the booking agency 33 and West. He started putting the band on national tours with metal acts such as The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Carnifex, Oceano and Fleshgod Apocalypse.
