Singer, songwriter, keyboard player, guitarist, blues woman, lover

Fresh off the heels of her Bluesapalooza performance, NJ born Katie Henry is not slowing down. In support of her IBMA and Blues Blast nominated debut album ‘High Road’, Katie and her band have been bringing their unique blend of blues influenced music to the people from one coast to the other.

Katie’s musical journey began when she was barely old enough to attend concerts. Shortly after, at the age of 6, she began to take piano lessons. She quickly became the “house” piano player for all night family sing alongs and very soon began crafting her own songs in the back of her school notebooks. Heavily involved in school band, her passion for music continued to grow in college, where she also picked up the guitar. That drive led her to the NYC jam session scene where she quickly assembled a band. It was there that she started to shape the powerful sound that was to become hers. Jim Hynes from Making A Scene Magazine writes, “Henry has a flair for songwriting that exceeds many blues artists. It’s a wide arc, one that encompasses roots, R&B, funk, pop, and rock.” Katie’s talent is fully on display with the release of “High Road” which debuted at #12 on the Roots Music Reports Top 50 Contemporary Blues Albums chart in January 2019 and has continued to receive consistent airplay on radio stations throughout the country.

During live performance, Katie conjures up images of Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin, making an impression on each crowd she performs in front of. One audience member exclaimed “ It’s like she’s got John Lee Hooker in her pocket!” Backed by a band of highly touted New Jersey’ players, Katie’s live show is packed with highlights that include epic solos and soulful singalongs. On bass guitar is Antar Goodwin (Ruth Brown, Abbey Lincoln, Sting) guitar Jonathan Fritz (Rachel Platten, Gavin DeGraw, Van Morrison) and on drums is John Hummel. Together they make a small room feel like an arena. Don Crow from Nashville Blues Alliance writes, “Katie Henry has one of the most expressive voices you’d ever want to hear, and the testifyin’ material allows her voice and musicianship to lead the charge!”

Katie is currently beginning work on her follow up album. In the meantime, she can be seen singing and playing that ‘testifyin’ music both regionally and nationally.
