Oh my stars, it’s time to party in the USA for a Fourth of July fireworks spectacular at Drake’s: The Barn! The riverfront will be booming with activities for the whole family, including live music, delicious BBQ eats, $5 photobooth and silent disco hosted by Funk With Friends. Get ready to enjoy red, white and brew merriment because the only thing that tastes better than a cold beer is freedom.

Party starts at 6:30pm, when you can lay out your picnic blankets and claim a viewing spot on our lawn. Conscious Creamery and Bambi Vegan Tacos will be onsite, and our prime location will give you a front row seat to the city’s Independence Day pyrotechnics show, lighting up the skies above Old Sacramento. Indulge in food, beverages and summer atmospherics in celebration of our fine country!

All ages are welcome, including four-legged friends. Entrance to the lawn is free before 6pm, entry after 6pm is $5 and EVERYONE attending must have a ticket (except those under 2 years of age). Tickets must be purchased at the door and in/out privileges are allowed.

Parking is available on Riverfront street and nearby Delta Lane. There’s also a large public lot with 200 spaces at the corner of Bridge Street and 5th Street. We recommend alternative transportation options, such as Yolobus, Jump Bike Sharing or car ride services such as Lyft and Uber. Do not drink and drive.

All ages! Openings still available for DEEP TIME: an art and writing workshop that digs to the root of meaning at @amatoria_fine_art_books in Midtown.

Thursday, November 21 · 6 - 7pm PST. Doors at 5:55pm
Amatoria Fine Art Books - 1831 F Street, Sacramento, CA. 95811
SIGN UP HERE: https://linktr.ee/Amatoria

About the Workshop:

In this hour-long workshop, we will look at a poem and a work of visual art as invitations into our own creative writing. The practice of writing from visual art is called ekphrasis. Our theme will be transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary.

The first part of our time together will be spent reading, looking, listening, and talking. We will spend the second half of our time in communal quiet, writing together in response to the work we've looked at, with time left at the end for optional sharing.

This workshop is open to anyone who wants to spend thoughtful time in community engaged with beauty and meaning. All writing genres and levels welcome.

Scholarships are available for youth writers and those in need of financial assistance. Apply by 11/15.

About the Instructor:

Sarah McColl is the author of the memoir Joy Enough (Liveright/W.W. Norton, 2019). She also writes the newsletter Lost Art, a monthly essay on the creative work of (mostly) dead women and a finalist for the 2023 Andy Warhol Arts Writers Grant. Her essays have been published by the Paris Review, McSweeney’s, and StoryQuarterly, and her work has been supported with fellowship awards from Millay Arts, Ucross, Vermont Studio Center, and MacDowell. She holds an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College and loves nothing more than talking about writing and what matters.
