Community celebration honors the enduring legacy of the Black Panther Party with a new exhibition, live music, dancing, guest speakers, family-friendly activities and more.

Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm at the California Museum

Join us for “By the People, For the People: A Black Panther Party Celebration,” a powerful community event marking the opening of “Revolutionary Grain: Celebrating the Spirit of the Black Panthers in Portraits and Stories,” an exhibition honoring the Black Panther Party’s mission and enduring legacy. Rooted in Northern California history, this day of education, culture, and activism offers a unique opportunity to engage with former Party members, gain insight into their impact beyond common misconceptions, and explore the relevance of their Ten-Point Program today.

Featuring:

Grand opening of the new exhibit “Revolutionary Grain: Celebrating the Spirit of the Black Panthers in Portraits and Stories”

Presentations by Emory Douglas, Social Justice Artist and the former Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party, and “Revolutionary Grain” photographer Susanna Lamaina

Panel discussion and Q&A with former Black Panther Party members Billy X Jennings, Ericka Huggins, Gayle “Asali” Dixon, and Malik Edwards

Live music by Bob Jones and the Chosen Few and DJ

Line dancing with Tina B. & the Sacramento Soul Line Dancers

Food & drinks for purchase by Soul Ona Roll and Urban Roots Brewery

Family-friendly games and crafts, including postcard making and temporary tattoos
