BLOOD OF THE LAMB
By Arlene Hutton
July 26th – August 4th

B Street went to Scotland, Alaska and Australia! Next stop: New York City!

In 2022, B Street Theatre commissioned playwright Arlene Hutton (LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC, THE NIBROC TRILOGY) to write an exciting new play featuring members of our acting company. From this came BLOOD OF THE LAMB, a searing new drama starring Dana Brooke and Elisabeth Nunziato. The show was selected to be featured at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, the Valdez Theatre Conference in Alaska, and the Adelaide Fringe Festival in Australia. It received rave reviews in The Telegraph and The Guardian and this fall will move on to an Off-Broadway production at 59E59 Theaters in New York City!

The Telegraph (UK)
“Set in the wake of Roe v Wade being overturned, this short two-hander at the Edinburgh Fringe packs the punch of a state-of-the-nation epic.”

The Guardian (UK)
“Directed expertly by Lyndsay Burch, this is a chilling scenario, clearly informed by the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v Wade.”

In Review (Adelaide)
“Exceptionally written, directed, and performed, Blood of the Lamb presents anti-abortion policies we hadn’t dreamed could be real, and as theatre coming out of the US, it doesn’t even feel dystopian.”

ABOUT THE PLAY

A woman fights for her life and a lawyer tries to do her job in a Kafka-esque drama about bureaucratic chaos in a post-Roe America. This hot-off-a-workshop-script dives unflinchingly into the heart of forced-birth issues. With a sometimes surreal style, BLOOD OF THE LAMB is a heartfelt (and heartbreaking) look at two women navigating the vagaries of the law that requires a dead fetus to be carried to term as an unborn “citizen of the state of Texas.” A play of our current moment, as we find these women at opposite sides of the table amidst legal precedents, administrative madness, and moral obligation to humanity.
