Black History Month Self-Guided Tour
February 1 – 28, 2023
The California Museum presents a Black History Month Self-Guided Tour featuring a look at Black American contributions to California’s rich history. Focusing on themes of resilience, activism, democracy and community, this exploration of our signature and temporary exhibits highlights the influence of Black Americans in California. Through interactive displays on trailblazing individuals such as Bridget “Biddy” Mason and Venus and Serena Williams, as well as movements and organizations, we discover their indelible and ongoing impact.
This tour is designed for visitors of all ages to explore the Museum at their own pace. Digital and print maps will be available. Map markers highlight focal points, organized by exhibit. Read, watch and listen symbols show patrons where they can find specific stories of extraordinary Black Americans.
To participate, you may buy tickets in advance or upon your arrival anytime during Museum hours. Last admission is 4 pm for this special tour.
We estimate this tour will take approximately one hour. Feel free to move through areas of interest at your own pace. There is a suggested path but no required order.
