February 2 – 25, 2024
*At the Guild Theater in Oak Park, In partnership with St. Hope for Black History Month.

A groundbreaking work in modern American theater, FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO HAVE CONSIDERED SUICIDE / WHEN THE RAINBOW IS ENUF is a choreopoem following seven women through a world of racism, oppression, and sexism. Filled with passion, humor, and raw honesty, they tell their stories and those of other women they know through a fusion of poetry, music, and dance.

A special post-show talk-back discussing the impact of FOR COLORED GIRLS on American culture will be held immediately after the performance on Sunday, February 11 featuring professor emeritus of African American Studies Halifu Osumare, Ph.d, and director Voress Franklin. Dr. Osumare will also share personal insights about playwright Ntozake Shange, who was a former dance company member and close friend before her passing in 2018.

This play includes adult themes and situations. Parental guidance for children under 13 is strongly recommended.
